Task Description:
· Provides technical direction in the design, implementation, and overall management of the client's local and wide area network services, including the network infrastructure for all departments.
· This includes technical expertise, coordination, and instruction in the establishment of network technology policy, standards, guidelines, and strategy for the client.
· Provides overall technical direction in studying and evaluating emerging issues and technologies and demonstrating the viable applications to the client's network environment.
· Provides technical oversight in the development of a statewide network strategic plan.
· Assists senior management in development of tactical plans and deploys enterprise-wide network technologies based on the statewide strategic plan.
· Directs project teams of network technical professionals focused on design, implementation, and administration of network technologies, solutions, and processes for areas such as router management, network engineering, network design and deployment, data center core networks, custom agency installations, virtual private networks, and wireless remote access; integrates standard procedures and interfaces for third party electronic connections, and provides technical expertise in developing network solutions that are practical, cost-effective, and ensure proper protection for the State and its information assets.
· Provides top-level technical expertise in troubleshooting the most complex network problems impacting operation of the client's WAN, MAN, and LAN infrastructures.
· Directs teams restoring network connectivity and leads in the determination of root causes of problems, creation of lessons learned and recommendations for improvements.
· Influences the overall design of networks valued in excess of $50,000,000.
· Works directly with Agency technical experts and IT Directors to improve network performance.
· Provides design and implementation of a new Data Center environment including core, distribution and access layers.
· The Data Center environment will include such technologies as network load balancing, SSL hardware acceleration, and layer 4-7 application inspections.
· Provides solution for connectivity for two Data Centers. These Data Centers will be used for disaster recovery, which may require them to be in an active/active mode of operation Designs and deploys all aspects of Networking from switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, ssl acceleration, vpn, Cisco IPT and Call Manager, and others as implemented.
· Travel is required to client locations.
Required Skills:
· Experience in network or data center design.
· Experience designing the data center infrastructure relating to enterprise service delivery. This could include networks (routers, switches, connectivity, and wiring), IP address configuration and management, firewalls, servers (e.g. Unix, Sun Solaris, Microsoft Windows, and NetWare), SAN, tape backup systems, disk to disk archival systems, and data bases such as SQL and Oracle.
· Experience gathering requirements, design and create an implementation plan around the requested technology or solution.
· Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
· IT project management experience
· Be able to work directly with multiple levels of staff and management.
· 5 yrs working knowledge of Nortel Passport switches, Alteon load balancers, and Check Point Firewalls.
· 5 yrs hands on experience in the design and deployment of Cisco switches and routers, F5 LTM and GTM, and Juniper SRX Firewalls and Juniper IDS/IDP.
· Extensive knowledge in layer 2 and layer 3
· 5 yrs hands on experience with Cisco Nexus 7000 series switches.
· 5 yrs hands on experience with Juniper SRX firewalls in routed mode and transparent mode.
· 5 yrs hands on experience with F5 (LTM) Local Traffic Manager and Global Traffic Manager (GTM)
· 5 yrs hands on knowledge of VPC, VDC, OTV, Ether Channel, LACP, STP.
· 5 yrs hands on experience with Cisco 1000V virtual switching.
· In-depth knowledge of the following routing protocols: OPSF, EBGP, IBGP, RIPV2 and Static
