The Database Administrator is responsible for all activities related to creation, administration, support, coordination and maintenance of Database Systems for Direct Customer in Boston, MA. Specifically, trouble-shoot, tune and optimize databases used in corporate systems, and other custom or packaged applications
MAJOR FUNCTIONS
· Maintain multiple Oracle database environments for all production/development/staging/performance.
· Provide guidance and direction to plan, implement and maintain database security and user accounts.
· Project long-range requirements for database administration and design in conjunction with other IT Managers.
· Troubleshoot application and database problems during development phases, and assist application developers to optimize SQL statements and stored procedures for better performance.
· Prepare activity and progress reports regarding database management. Create and maintain DBA jobs/scripts - database & transaction logs, log file cleanup, server mappings, error log checking.
· Design and maintain database objects like tables, views, indexes, database files etc, responsible for database upgrades.
· Evaluate Database storage requirements for current systems and future growth.
· Facilitate System integration including sharing data across databases and integration of package databases with other corporate databases .
· Administer advanced Oracle database concepts such as RAC and Streams.
· Work with System Administrator on database storage and backup requirements
· Monitor database performance and tune database parameters as appropriate.
· Create and maintain appropriate documentation for databases, production support and end-users.
· Cross-train IT operations staff in beginning to intermediate level Oracle database operations as related to corporate systems.
REQUIREMENTS
· Strongly motivated self-starter
· Must be able to work as part of a team, both operationally and on a project basis.
· Above average writing skills especially as it pertains to generating documentation.
· Experience with PeopleSoft a plus.
· Experience with EMC Storage a major plus.
· B.S. degree in Computer Science or a business related field preferred.
· At least 7 years database administration experience with Oracle databases
· Experience with SQL Server databases highly preferred.
· Experience with Oracle version 10g, and 11g required
· Experience with database monitoring tools.
· Must be comfortable with UNIX scripting languages.
Title: Senior Database Administrator
Specific responsibilities:
· 24/7 support of production database services to ensure the highest standards of availability, resilience, integrity, security and performance required by our business systems.
· Design, development and administration of Oracle databases.
· Performance monitoring, reporting, and tuning of Oracle databases.
· Management and maintenance of back-ups & recovery procedures.
· Installation and maintenance of database server, replication and client environments.
· Reviewing and tuning SQL and PL/SQL code.
· Designing database packages and procedures.
· Security and access control.
· Provision of support and assistance to development team in the design, development, testing, tuning and implementation of database applications
· Creation and maintenance of SQL queries and routines
· Oracle 10g and 11g experience required.
· Provisioning of (database) development and testing environments.
· Writing ad-hoc queries based on schema knowledge for various reporting requirements. Writing / Tuning data ingestion procedures from external suppliers and partners using PL/SQL, sql loader, 3rd party tools eg. Toad etc.
· Required to deal with complex data models and object relational database mapping, while producing complex reports
Education and Experience Requirements:
· In-depth knowledge of Oracle 10g/11g with production support experience in a multi-project environment.
· In-depth knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL including tuning.
· Experience with Unix/Linux in a multi-domain environment including basic commands and shell scripting.
· Oracle Recovery Manager, Import/Export , SQL*Loader
· Oracle performance and tuning skills including server configuration and tracing facilities.
· Oracle Enterprise Manager.
· Good working knowledge of job scheduling and monitoring tools.
· Experience of working with multiple projects/tasks and the ability to prioritize on the fly.
· Experience of supporting multiple teams within a business.
· Oracle Streams and Advanced Replication administration.
· An interest in data warehousing.
· Hard working but easy-going manner.
· Oracle OCP Certification.
· Familiarity with Oracle specific tools and utilities.
· Knowledge of XML and HTML
· Knowledge of open source web development
· Good documenting skills ( Windows Office/Visio/Cvs etc )
