Job Description:
I. POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Senior Oracle Developer will be involved in the Sybase to Oracle conversion project part of a firm wide initiative to standardize on the Oracle DB platform.
II. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONS:
This position reports to Associate Director of Development and is a key position within the development group which is responsible developing and maintaining all applications
III. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Extensive knowledge of Oracle database versions 11g, 10g
• Creating utilities to parse through code in various languages (JAVA, .NET/C#, Delphi, J2EE) for syntax conversion
• Ensuring that database objects, program data access, procedures and converted into Client Oracle env
• Advising management on database concepts and functional capabilities
• Must be able to tune/troubleshoot in order to gain improvements in performance
• Position is also responsible ensuring compliance of new databases installation to the standards.
• The candidate will have to understand data modeling concepts and provide standard
• Must have minimum of 4-6 years experience working as a Database Administrator/Developer
• Knowledge of relational database concepts and standards, best practices and procedures relating to database administration
• Experience in financial industry a plus
• Must have excellent technical skills and knowledge of Unix and Windows operating systems
• Strong interpersonal, analytical and troubleshooting skills with superior verbal/written skills are required
IV. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:
Technical/Programming Skills:
• Ensures the integrity of all physical database objects and established database procedures
• Ensures work is thoroughly tested and smoothly implemented
• Is responsible for database performance and capacity monitoring and tuning in relation to the conversion from Sybase to Oracle.
• Provides technical support and basic training in the proper use of production databases to database users
• Assists in troubleshooting application problems where database management is an integral element
• Analyzes and recommends upgrades and/or new acquisitions of hardware to support new systems or growth of existing systems
Analysis Skills:
• Understands the Company System Lifecycle Methodology, and project development lifecycle
• Contributes to database design reviews
• Possesses strong understanding of the system deployment process and correlation with database administration responsibilities
• Coordinates and conducts database design reviews
• Possesses keen troubleshooting and creative problem solving skills
• Possesses the ability to translate user needs and projections into system hardware and/or software requirements
Education & Experience:
• University level education in Information Technology
• Experience in Information Technologies as a SR DBA/Developer is a minimum
• Data Architecture and Modeling is a plus
• Financial Services technology experience is preferred
